Ticket Distribution Information
GENERAL PUBLIC (2,000 tickets): Tickets will be available to the general public starting at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. At that time, anyone interested in a ticket should contact 800-462-TERP or go online at umterps.com. There will be a limit of TWO tickets per request. All seats for the general public will be general admission.
If all the tickets for each group are not picked up, all remaining tickets will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013. Please check back for updates.
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 7, 2013, 10:00 a.m. The event is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.
LOCATION: Comcast Center, University of Maryland
DOORS OPEN: 7:30 a.m.
WHICH COMCAST DOOR TO USE FOR ENTRANCE TO THE EVENT: Please check back for information.
TICKETS: This event is free. Tickets are required (see ticket distribution information).
SEATING INSIDE THE COMCAST CENTER: Seating will be by “general admission” on a first-come, first-served basis. Please follow usher directions.
DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING: There will be sign language interpreters at the event, and the program will be captioned on the Comcast Center large screens. A limited number of seats will be reserved in the Comcast Center for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. After you pass through the front door, please go to the Fan Assistance window to the left of the front door and a volunteer will direct you. Please note that seating is limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION: Faculty, staff and students should park in their designated areas. TTG (Terrapin Trail Garage) and Lot 4B will be reserved for invited guests on May 7. The UMD Department of Transportation Services will contact permit holders in those lots to provide them with information about alternate parking arrangements on the day of the event.
Because a large crowd is expected, please follow directions from official personnel. If you are directed to an alternate parking area, you may leave your car there all day without penalty. We strongly encourage members of the campus community to take public transportation and car pool to work on Tuesday, May 7.
Faculty, staff and students attending the lecture are encouraged to WALK to the Comcast Center.
Limited handicapped parking will be available in the Terrapin Trail Garage.
Members of the general public should take public transportation. Very limited parking will be available in the visitor parking lots at a cost of $3 per hour. A list of visitor parking lots may be found here.
SHUTTLE BUSES: Free shuttle buses will be provided by the University of Maryland to and from the University of Maryland-College Park Metro Station (Green Line) starting at 7:00 a.m. on May 7 until two hours following the end of the event. The shuttle buses will drop off as close to the Comcast Center as possible, but there will be a short walk to the entrance. Regular shuttle bus service to and from the Metro Station will resume for the remainder of the day.
SECURITY: All attendees must go through a “bag check” and should bring as few personal items as possible. NO back packs, no large bags, no sharp objects, no umbrellas, no food or beverage, no strollers, and no signs will be allowed into the Comcast Center. These items cannot be left outside unattended, so please do not bring them.
PHOTO AND VIDEO CAMERAS: Taking photos and videos is permitted.
LIVE STREAMING: The lecture will be streamed live on the web. Please go to umd.edu on the day of the event and click on the appropriate link.
CONCESSIONS: The concession stands will be open inside the Comcast Center. Light snacks and beverages will be sold.
OVERNIGHT LINES: Lining up overnight will NOT be permitted. Lines may begin forming at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7. Please follow police direction for the line.
